Scouse Girl Social, a community event for women and girls across Merseyside, returns to Boxpark Liverpool on Sunday, October 11, to celebrate its first birthday. The day will feature workshops, live performances, fashion shows, and a panel of inspirational women.
Event created to support young girls
The event was founded last year by Nic Byrne and Sarah Worsley, co-founders of Girls With Dreams Club, in partnership with Francesca Kearns, founder of fashion label Francesca Couture. Girls With Dreams Club provides workshops, events and coaching for girls aged 10 and above who are struggling with confidence and the ability to back themselves.
Nic Byrne, who also runs the award-winning Urban Calm salon group and children’s wellness brand Mini Madams, previously told the ECHO: "I've run businesses in Liverpool for many years and employing young girls, I've been conscious of a gap in personal development and things that aren't taught in schools."
She added: "I think the world is a lot more complex than what it was when we were growing up. I think the speed of the world, social media, there's additional pressures and I think with that comes a need to have a different set of skills."
Special guests and performances
"That was one of the drivers for us setting up Girls With Dreams Club, being a mum myself, having friends who've got young girls, just the complexity of modern day life. We just wanted to create a space where we can teach them around boundaries, healthy relationships, navigating social media, just learning to regulate themselves. My key thing is better people make a better world," she said.
Scouse Girl Social will host various fashion shows, live performances, special guests and entertainment throughout the day. There will be a special guest panel of inspirational women including self-made millionaire and businesswoman Kate Stewart, hairdresser and content creator Alix Scott, and BAFTA award winner Christine Tremarco. They will talk about their journeys and take questions from the audience.
Kate said: "Empowering women, especially young women means so much to me because I know how powerful it is when someone makes you believe that more is possible for your life. I've built businesses, faced setbacks, started again and had plenty of doors shut in my face along the way."
A day of fun and inspiration
"At Scouse Girl Social I want to talk about resilience, confidence, financial independence and having the courage to back yourself, even when nobody else does. If sharing my journey can make just one young woman walk away believing she can build the life she wants that would mean the world to me," she added.
Francesca Kearns said: "Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or this will be your very first Scouse Girl Social, we want you to walk through those doors and feel a part of it."
"It’s going to be a full day of trying something new, meeting people, celebrating individuality and, most importantly, having fun. We want every girl who comes to Scouse Girl Social to leave feeling more confident, more inspired and more proud of exactly who she is," she added.
There will be live music from a DJ throughout the day as well as live performances from Rain Castillo and Bethany Webster. The event will also feature various workshops and a selection of stalls from brands such as Lush, Charlotte Tilbury, Reva, Blanca Sport, LipFix Cosmetics and Nishki.
