The Prince Charles Cinema in central London has announced that it has secured its future after a long-running battle with its landlord. The independent picture house said it had signed a 25-year lease that would allow “our projectors will keep rolling for years to come”.
Legal dispute resolved
The cinema had previously accused landlord Criterion Capital of attempting to “bully” it out of the building, situated off Leicester Square, demanding rent “at a level which no cinema proprietor would consider reasonable.” It had been embroiled in a costly legal row with Criterion ahead of Thursday’s announcement.
Statement on X
In a statement published on X, the cinema said: “The Prince Charles Cinema is thrilled to announce that we have signed a new 25-year lease with no break clause, ensuring our projectors will keep rolling for years to come.
“After 21 months of uncertainty, we’re delighted to have secured the future of the cinema, and we couldn’t have done it without the support, commitment and belief of many, many people.”
This is a breaking story and is being updated.
