Ouseburn's Christmas lights switch on will return for a second year on Friday, November 13, 2026, after a crowd of over 2,000 people attended the event's debut last year. The switch on event will run from 4-9pm, with the lights themselves being switched on at 7pm.
A Popular Addition to Newcastle's Festive Calendar
The event was first organised last year by Flora Rose and The Find, two leading lights in Ouseburn's creative scene. After people turned up in large numbers, bringing it back for 2026 was described as a no brainer.
Ouseburn is known for its local businesses, including food and drink spots like Ernest, Gingerino's and Cook House, as well as pubs such as The Tyne Bar, Cumberland Arms and Free Trade Inn. The area also offers a range of shops selling art and unique gifts.
What to Expect at the 2026 Event
Alongside the switch on itself, the event will feature late night shopping throughout Ouseburn, live music from a rock choir and Storytellers Brass Band, festive activities and special events. A Christmas market with 35 local businesses will also be held, with Santa at 51 Lime Street and mulled wine and festive treats on offer.
Entry to the Christmas Market is £2, with children getting in for free. Everything else is free to attend, and money raised from the event will go to Stepney Bank stables.
