Scotland will host 27 organised firework displays on Thursday, November 5, as communities mark Bonfire Night with bonfires, family entertainment and fireworks.
November 5 commemorates the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when Guy Fawkes and a group of conspirators attempted to blow up the House of Parliament in London. Although the plan failed, the date has since become Bonfire Night, or Guy Fawkes night, with communities gathering to watch displays.
Safety advice from fire service
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to attend organised public displays rather than setting off fireworks themselves. The service said attending an organised event is safer and better for the environment.
Their advice states: "Our advice is always to attend an organised public firework display. It's safer and better for the environment." They added: "Where possible, attend an organised display. It is safer and will be far more impressive to look at."
