Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott has said he is 'very excited' as he shared an update on social media confirming he has landed a new role away from the famous cobbles.
The actor, best known for playing Weatherfield's Ryan Connor since 2018, will join the cast of writer-director Rocky Rodriguez Jr.'s UK comedy-drama Waif. Jason Flemyng and Dexter Fletcher will star in the film, alongside Helen Foster and Ryan, as a free-wheeling single mother and a drifting art curator who are making a life on their own terms amid the skateparks, guitar shops and art openings of east London, according to Screen Daily.
A long history on the cobbles
Ryan was first introduced to Weatherfield in 2006, played by Ben Thompson until 2010, when the character left for a university placement in Glasgow. Two years later, he was kicked out of his course and returned home hooked on cocaine. Sol Heras then took on the role from 2012 to 2013, when Ryan went to Ibiza to work as a DJ.
Eventually, Ryan was recast in the role when his character's job in Ibiza fell through, and he moved back in with his mum, Michelle Connor, played by Kym Marsh. He has remained on the cobbles ever since, though his storylines have included being the unintentional victim of an acid attack at the hands of Justin Rutherford, his love interest Daisy Midgeley's stalker, and later facing steroid abuse and turning to online sex work.
Support from co-stars and fans
Sharing the news in a post on Instagram, Ryan said: "Excited for this…" He also shared it to his Instagram Story and echoed: "Very excited..." His Corrie co-stars Vicky Myers and Sydney Martin, who play Lisa and Betsy, were quick to show their support in the comments section, while fans also responded. @lovingcaitsyd said: "Oo I look forward to this ryan!" @mymothersbloomers commented: "Incredible!! This is so cool! @corrieluvsx added: "Aah amazing!!"
Ryan has since been on a better path, having been taken into the Connor-Swain home with his aunt, Carla Connor-Swain, and her new wife, Lisa Connor-Swain, and her daughter, Betsy Swain, and he was recently seen rekindling a former fling with Bethany Platt. In scenes aired this week, Bethany discovered she is pregnant with Kit Green's baby after a controversial one-night stand, which could end in heartbreak for Ryan.
