The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has released the most popular baby names of 2025 for England and Wales, revealing which names have fallen out of favour. While Muhammad and Olivia retain their top spots for boys and girls respectively, several previously popular names have dropped out of the top 100 entirely.
Girls' Names Dropping Out
For girls, the names no longer featured in the top 100 include Jessica, which dropped 44 places; Ellie, down 31 places; and Amelie, down 22 places. Notably, Jessica was the number one name for girls in England and Wales in 2005. Other names that have fallen include Chloe, which dropped 17 places to 89th.
Boys' Names Dropping Out
For boys, Bodhi dropped 18 places, Grayson fell 14 places, and Brody declined 7 places, all exiting the top 100. Leon, previously ranked 100th, also dropped out. Charlie fell from 17th to 22nd, no longer in the top 20. Mason dropped 14 places to 77th, and Jaxon fell 22 places to 88th.
New Entries and Surging Names
Newcomers to the girls' top 100 include Eliana, Gracie, Alba, and Lilah. Ada saw a surge, rising 54 places to 45th. Athena jumped 248 places to 90th. For boys, Carter, Ruben, Stanley, and Vincent entered the top 100. Roman rose 33 places to 27th, the biggest increase for boys.
Top 10 for 2025
The top ten girls' names are Olivia, Lily, Amelia, Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy, and Isabella. Lily and Amelia swapped places, with Amelia moving from third to second. Ivy dropped from 5th to 9th. Frankie entered at 100th. For boys, the top ten are Muhammad, Noah, Leo, Luca, Arthur, Oliver, George, Oscar, Theodore, and Freddie. Oliver fell from third to sixth, while Leo rose from fifth to third. Archie moved from 10th to 11th, and George from 6th to 7th.
