Apple TV Renews 'Widow's Bay' for Second Season

Apple TV has renewed its horror-comedy series Widow's Bay for a second season, just ahead of the Season 1 finale. The show, starring and executive produced by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, has been a hit for the streamer. Additionally, Apple has signed creator Katie Dippold to a new multi-year overall deal covering series and a first-look on features.

Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, praised the series: “From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created. It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

The series follows Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys), who is desperate to revive his struggling island community. With no Wi-Fi, spotty mobile reception, and superstitious locals who believe the island is cursed, Loftis aims to turn it into a tourist destination. He succeeds, but the old stories of curses begin to resurface. Dippold, who serves as showrunner, teased: “Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.”

Hiro Murai, who directed five episodes in the first season, executive produces alongside Dippold through his banner Chum Films, with Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Rhys. The first season concludes on Wednesday, June 17 on Apple TV.
