Taylor Swift has officially announced the release of a new original song for the upcoming Disney and Pixar film Toy Story 5. The single, titled I Knew It, I Knew You, was written with her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff and marks a return to Swift's country music roots.
Release Details
The song will be released on 5 June, with CD singles available for preorder on Swift's website. Three variants will be offered, each containing different versions of the track: a piano version, an acoustic version, and the original.
Rumours began swirling last week after fans spotted billboards featuring the initials TS in the blocky yellow Toy Story font across major cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, and London.
Swift's Announcement
On 1 June, Swift wrote on Instagram: "It's a *Toy* Story. You knew it! My new original song I Knew It, I Knew You for Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th."
She added: "I've always dreamed of writing for these characters I've adored since I was a five-year-old watching the first movie. I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I saw it in early stages and wrote this song as soon as I got home. Sometimes you just know, right?"
Song Inspiration
The song was inspired by Jessie, the film's cowgirl character. Director Andrew Stanton commented: "It's incredible how meaningful it's been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and her understanding of the character was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story that on first listen it felt like it had always belonged there."
Swift's Recent Work
This single is Swift's first new music since her record-breaking album The Life of a Showgirl released in October 2025. In April, she released a video for the single Elizabeth Taylor, featuring archive footage of the legendary actor.
Toy Story 5 Release
Toy Story 5 will be released worldwide on 19 June. The trailer shows Buzz and Woody facing off with a tablet called Lilypad in a battle for playtime attention.
