Netflix Remakes Cinderella with 'Steps' Starring Amanda Seyfried
Netflix's 'Steps' Reimagines Cinderella with Amanda Seyfried

Netflix is putting a new spin on a classic fairy tale with its upcoming animated film, Steps, which reimagines the story of Cinderella from the perspective of her stepsisters. The streaming giant has assembled a star-studded cast, including Amanda Seyfried as Cinderella, Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother, and Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu as the stepsisters Lilith and Margot.

A Fresh Take on a Timeless Tale

While Disney's versions of Cinderella are widely known, Netflix promises a unique twist. The synopsis reveals that Lilith, tired of living in Cinderella's shadow, steals the Fairy Godmother's wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot. This breaks the traditional story, plunging the kingdom into tyranny under the villainous Priscilla. Lilith must then team up with Cinderella to save the kingdom and mend their relationship.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

Amanda Seyfried, known for The Housemaid, brings depth to Cinderella. Director Alyce Tzue praised her ability to make the character relatable, stating, "Her portrayal is hilarious and heartbreaking, and refreshingly human." Bette Midler, iconic from Hocus Pocus, plays the Fairy Godmother, while Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu add comedic and dramatic flair as the stepsisters. The film is co-directed by Tzue and John Ripa, who previously worked on Raya and the Last Dragon.
