Maguire Misses Out on World Cup Call-Up
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was left out of Thomas Tuchel's 26-man England squad for the 2026 World Cup, a decision that left him 'shocked and gutted,' according to reports. Despite the snub, Maguire has embraced the tournament spirit while in the United States.
Spreading Joy in New York City
The 33-year-old was photographed handing out Panini sticker albums at the Rockefeller Centre in New York City. He also attended a meet-and-greet and Q&A session at a Manchester United-themed fan bar near Times Square. Some fans expressed disbelief on social media that it was indeed Maguire, who previously played for Leicester City and Hull City.
In an Instagram story, Maguire posed with fans and said: 'Always good to see the fans around the world.'
Awkward Call with Tuchel
Maguire revealed on Gary Lineker's podcast 'The Rest is Football' that he had an 'awkward' video call with Thomas Tuchel in which he learned he would not be part of the World Cup squad. Maguire has 66 England caps.
England's World Cup Campaign
England, who are also without Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, won their opening match 4-2 against Croatia in Dallas. The Three Lions are set to face Ghana at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Tuesday. Victory would guarantee their place in the knockout phase.
Fans' Dedication Praised
England fans have been praised for their loyalty, with tens of thousands of expats supporting the team across the US. Thomas Concannon, who works for the FSA fans' embassy, drove from Miami to Dallas over four days, enjoying 'classic midtown America.'
The Fans' Embassy will be located at the information centre on Boston Common, opening from 10am to 5pm on Monday and two hours on matchday starting at 10am. The players trained on Sunday and are due to fly to Boston on Monday.
