Edinburgh Fringe 2026: AI and Manosphere Take Centre Stage

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has announced its 2026 programme, featuring 3,649 shows across 258 venues. Running from August 7 to 31, the world's largest arts festival will host 53,884 performances, with themes including artificial intelligence, the manosphere, cults, and social class.

Organisers report a notable increase in international artists, with performers from 71 countries registered. Among the 935 Scottish productions, highlights include a refurbished Gilded Balloon Teviot, a 'sauna theatre' at Summerhall, and the 'pianodrome'—an amphitheatre made from disused pianos.

Tony Lankester, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, thanked artists and staff, noting that the surge in overseas registrations shows the Fringe remains relevant despite global challenges. He urged audiences to explore the diverse offerings, from theatre and circus to comedy, music, and cabaret.
