Danny Dyer and Rob Lowe Clash in Hilarious World Cup Ad Campaign
Danny Dyer and Rob Lowe in New World Cup Ad

Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer has joined forces with Hollywood actor Rob Lowe for a hilarious new advertising campaign ahead of the World Cup. The 48-year-old Rivals actor and the 62-year-old film star engage in a comedic culture clash to promote bookmaker Paddy Power.

Culture Clash in the Ad

The advertisement explores British and American cultural differences, from enjoying a "pint and a slash" in a UK pub to the glamour of US halftime shows. At one point, Danny removes his shirt while Rob keeps his on and dons a cowboy hat, highlighting their tense rivalry. Danny exclaims, "It can’t go on like this, can it?" to which former Wolves manager Mick McCarthy responds, "It can!" as a glum-looking Peter Crouch appears, amid the threat of France winning the cup.

Rob Lowe’s Thoughts on Danny Dyer

Rob Lowe admitted he hadn't seen Danny in any roles before but told the Daily Star: "I’d heard he was a bit of a legend over here in the UK and I have to agree, he is really funny, genuine, and a very good actor. When he walked on set, within about four minutes I'm thinking he’s got this energy and presence about him. Completely magnetic. As an American, you think you’re prepared for big personalities, but Danny’s got this very specific British edge to it and it was great working with him."

Rob Lowe on Football and Soccer

Lowe also addressed the transatlantic terminology debate, saying: "If I’m in America, I call it soccer, but if I’m anywhere other than America, I call it football. Football becomes American Football when I’m abroad too." He shared his experience attending a Chelsea match at Stamford Bridge, calling it a "great old stadium" and noting that while a new one is planned, "Stamford Bridge is pretty sick."

The ad, which features Danny Dyer and Rob Lowe, is set to air from Saturday, 30th May across TV and online platforms.
