Corrie fans in tears as Kit predicts own death in cancer storyline

Coronation Street fans were left in tears after a string of emotional scenes on Monday night. The world's longest-running TV soap recently kicked off a storyline which saw DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) diagnosed with breast cancer, and in the latest episode, he began treatment.

Kit shaves his head ahead of chemotherapy

Ahead of his appointment, Kit was having an honest chat with his long-lost son Brody, and told him that he intended to shave his head. Brody (Ryan Mulvey) then offered to do it for him.

As Brody set about doing so, Kit said: "Where's the chat, Brody? You've not even asked me about County. Or the state of the world, or if I've booked any holidays." It was then that Kit added: "There's not much point, is there? My next trip might be via the Shuttleworths," referring to the local undertakers.

When Kit apologised for his comment, Brody said to his dad: "You don't have to apologise, just don't die!" In later scenes, Kit was at the hospital with Bernie, whom he discovered in 2024 was his long-lost mum. The two then had a heart-to-heart about his childhood, and a nurse talked him through further stages of treatment.

Emotional chat with Brody

That night, Kit had a frank discussion with Brody and told his son: "They can send people to the moon, they can build self-driving cars. But fix me? Nah, no guarantee. When I looked at the others today, I just....who gets through no-man's land? Who catches the bullet? The thing is, I don't wanna die, Brody. This is the only go-around I'm gonna get."

In tears, Brody said: "I went through most of my life without a proper father. And now that I've got one, I need you to live, Dad. I need that more than anything," and continued to weep as the credits began to roll.

Fans praise the soap

Fans were quick to praise the soap for the way the scenes were portrayed. One fan wrote: "This episode brought tears to my eyes.." and another simply said: "Heartbreaking."

A third wrote: "Omg, brody got me crying," and a fourth said: "The most touching scene in corrie for a while , Kit reaching for Bernies hand and the realisation he accepts her as his mum and she'll be there for him."

Taking to Reddit, another fan said: "That last scene today was everything. I can only hope we’ll see Brody tmw, as he only seems to be onscreen for one or two days in a row.

"They don’t share a lot of screen time, but in my head canon, they interact at least twice a week, but the producers choose not to air it."

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
