Ari Aster's New Mexico Western 'Eddington' Unveils First Trailer Ahead of Cannes Premiere

The first trailer for 'Eddington', the latest film from 'Midsommar' director Ari Aster, has been released. The black comedy western is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month and features an ensemble cast including Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Pedro Pascal.

The film is set in May 2020 and revolves around a standoff between the sheriff of a small New Mexico town and its mayor, who is seeking re-election. Phoenix plays the sheriff, with Stone as his wife, while Pascal portrays the mayor. Austin Butler appears as a charismatic preacher whose sermons are shared via YouTube and Instagram, with the quarantined characters also seen interacting on social media.

Aster's debut feature, the horror film 'Hereditary', was a breakout hit at Sundance in 2018 and became one of the year's highest-grossing films. His follow-up, 'Midsommar', also received critical acclaim and strong box office returns, but his 2023 film 'Beau is Afraid', also starring Phoenix, was less well received.
