A Treasure Trove from a Legendary Career
A remarkable collection of personal items belonging to the late, great actor Alan Rickman is set to go under the hammer this December. The auction, run by the specialist firm Propstore, will offer fans and collectors a unique glimpse into the actor's meticulous process through his annotated scripts and personal keepsakes from iconic films like Die Hard and the Harry Potter series.
From Hans Gruber to Severus Snape: The Star Lots
The most anticipated item is the collection from Rickman's film debut, the 1988 action classic Die Hard. The lot, estimated to fetch between £30,000 and £60,000, includes his shooting script filled with his own handwritten notes and suggestions for alternative dialogue. It also contains a call sheet, press packs, and his invitation to the film's London gala preview. A separate lot offers a prop $100,000 Treasury note from the film, valued at £1,000-£2,000.
For Potterheads, several magical items are available. These include a hand-drawn Halloween card from his co-star Rupert Grint (estimate: £2,000-£4,000), a gold-plated pocket watch given to the cast and crew of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and Rickman's own personal set of the Harry Potter novels.
Beyond Blockbusters: A Diverse Cinematic Legacy
The sale highlights the breadth of Rickman's celebrated career beyond his most famous villainous and professorial roles. A box from the beloved British film Truly Madly Deeply includes his annotated script and notes on learning the cello for his role. His script from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is valued at £10,000-£20,000.
Other notable lots feature items from the cult sci-fi comedy Galaxy Quest, behind-the-scenes photos from Sense and Sensibility, and material from Kevin Smith's Dogma. The auction also includes pieces from Rickman's work behind the camera, such as a clapperboard from his directorial debut, The Winter Guest.
Propstore's Entertainment Memorabilia sale will be held at Bafta in London and online from 5-7 December, offering a rare chance to own a piece of cinematic history from one of Britain's most revered actors.
