Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has moved to allay concerns about his health after his absence from the team's spring football camps prompted speculation. The 57-year-old former NFL star took to social media on Wednesday to declare that 'everything is OKAY'.
In a post on X, Sanders thanked supporters for their well-wishes, writing: 'I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!' He added that he was 'excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program' and promised further updates upon his return.
ESPN, citing an unnamed source, reported on Tuesday that Sanders has been ill and out of the office. His son, Deion Sanders Jr, said in a YouTube livestream that his father was at home in Texas and 'feeling well', according to USA Today. The Hall of Famer has a history of health issues, including the amputation of two toes in 2021 due to blood clots, and he missed media day in 2023 after procedures to remove a clot and straighten toes.
Sanders signed a contract extension in March that requires him to run at least three on-campus football camps. The Buffaloes begin their third season under his leadership on 29 August against Georgia Tech at Folsom Field. The university declined to comment on his absence.
