As the BBC prepares for a new chapter of Strictly Come Dancing, the spotlight is firmly on the new presenting trio: Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe, and Josh Widdicombe. They are stepping into the shoes of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who left the show last December after a long tenure. Alongside the new hosts, several new professional dancers will join returning favourites, but the success of the show hinges on the chemistry and charisma of its presenters.
Scrutiny from the Start
The trio has faced immediate scrutiny. Josh Widdicombe, known for his comedy, must convince fans he fits the Strictly aesthetic. Meanwhile, some viewers mourn the loss of Johannes Radebe as a professional dancer, though he has not ruled out returning to the dance floor. Emma Willis, the veteran host from Big Brother, is widely seen as the right choice, but her association with Love Is Blind has raised concerns.
Love Is Blind Connection
Emma co-hosts the UK version of Love Is Blind with her husband Matt. The show is produced by CPL, the same company behind Married At First Sight, which is under review after serious allegations of rape and sexual assault. The Sun reported that BBC bosses worry any negative attention on Love Is Blind could affect Emma's reputation. However, an insider noted that Emma is merely a presenter, not a producer, and there is no suggestion of wrongdoing. The source added that if Love Is Blind faces scrutiny, the association alone could be problematic, especially given Strictly's own recent scandals involving former pros Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima.
No Cause for Alarm Yet
Despite these concerns, it is premature to sound alarms. The scandal involves Married At First Sight, not Love Is Blind. Emma has emphasised her compassion for contestants, telling AP: 'These are real people's real lives, and you have to show compassion.' She and Matt have limited interaction with participants, only appearing to introduce stages and host the reunion. With the frenzy around the new hosts, it is wise to wait until the show airs before speculating about potential fallout.
Metro has contacted Emma Willis's representatives and the BBC declined to comment.
