Vets dedicate their lives to helping animals, so it's fair to assume they don't have favourites—or least favourites. But one veterinarian has left cat owners in stitches after revealing there's one popular cat breed that makes him jokingly stop in his tracks whenever it walks through the surgery doors.
Vet's Light-Hearted Ranking Goes Viral
Known online as Amir The Vet, the animal expert shared a light-hearted video ranking different cats based on how nervous they make him feel. The clip starts with him looking completely relaxed when he hears the words 'tabby cat', before remaining equally unfazed by the mention of an orange cat. But everything changes when someone says 'Persian cat.'
The vet immediately freezes before dramatically backing away in mock fear, suggesting they're the only cats that truly worry him during a working day.
Persian Cats: Known Traits and Health Issues
Persian cats are known for their distinctive flat faces, long fluffy coats and calm personalities. They tend to be affectionate and enjoy a quiet lifestyle, but their unique facial structure can leave them prone to breathing difficulties, eye problems and dental issues. Their thick coats also require daily grooming to prevent painful matting.
By comparison, tabby isn't actually a breed at all, but a coat pattern found across many different breeds. Tabby cats are often described as confident, adaptable and affectionate, making them one of the UK's most common feline companions. Meanwhile, orange cats have developed an internet reputation of their own. Although their ginger colouring isn't linked to any particular personality scientifically, they're often jokingly portrayed online as chaotic, mischievous and sharing 'one brain cell' between them.
Cat Owners React to the Vet's Video
The playful clip sparked hundreds of comments from cat lovers eager to defend their own pets. One user joked: 'I don't know why you're worried about the orange babies. It's the Tortie Queens who are the ones not to play with.' Another, who owns Persian cats, said: 'Wait but my Persian is so sweet!! Her neurologist wrote "very gentle and adorable" in the notes.'
A third user added: 'I have two Persians. They are the best behaved at the vets.' Someone else commented: 'As the owner of two senior rescue Persians, one of which needs sedated to be handled, I apologise!'
