James Van Der Beek's Family Fundraiser Surpasses $500,000 Goal After His Death
A GoFundMe campaign launched to support the grieving family of actor James Van Der Beek has exceeded its initial $500,000 goal within hours of the announcement of his passing. The Dawson's Creek star died on the morning of Wednesday, February 11 at the age of 48, following a two-year battle with colorectal cancer.
Family Details and Fundraiser Launch
Van Der Beek is survived by his longtime wife, Kimberly, and their six children: daughters Olivia, 15, Annabel, 12, Emilia, nine, and Gwendolyn, seven, as well as sons Joshua, 13, and Jeremiah, four. Kimberly confirmed her husband's death on Instagram and shared a link to the GoFundMe, which was created by the couple's friends.
In her Instagram Story, Kimberly wrote: 'My friends created this link to support me and our children during this time. With gratitude and a broken heart.' The fundraiser stated that donations 'will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the [Van Der Beek] children's education.'
Rapid Fundraising Success
The campaign saw an immediate and overwhelming response. Within the first hour of going live, more than $100,000 was raised for the Van Der Beek family. By 3:30 PM PT, over 8,000 contributors had donated, pushing the total to more than $527,000, which surpassed the original $500,000 goal.
Due to this rapid success, the goal has since been increased to $1 million, reflecting the ongoing support and generosity from the public and fans of the beloved actor.
