A besotted American couple flew nearly 2,000 miles from Texas to Boston to meet the famous Tartan Army after being left in awe by their infectious energy on television.
Scots' Boston Takeover
The Scots have been widely praised for their takeover in Boston this past week, with locals thanking them for their inclusive behaviour amid passionate World Cup celebrations. The Tartan Army has gone viral online, with multiple videos showing kilted parades and acts of kindness on the streets.
Inspired to Join
One couple, so inspired by the Scots' presence in Boston, decided it was worth flying three hours to join the fun rather than driving 80 miles to Dallas to see other World Cup teams. Sharing their story on The Tartan Army Gathering Facebook page, Susan Whittemore Stone posted a selfie with her husband on their flight to Boston.
She captioned it: "I'm so amazed by the energy of the Tartan Army that my husband and I just bought tickets to fly from Texas to Boston to be part of the fun for the Morocco game. We could drive 80 miles from our home to the Dallas area to see other teams, but chose to fly three hours, without game tickets or a plan. Can't wait to experience it!!!"
Viral Response
The post has since gone viral, garnering 20,000 likes and thousands of Scots wishing them well. One person replied: "Let everybody know how you get on, you'll have a brilliant time. I cannae get my hoosework down for watching videos." Another responded: "Have a hoolie. The boys will welcome you with open arms and hearts. No Scotland No Party."
A third commented: "Have a fantastic time I'm so proud to be Scottish listening to all the comments from Americans." Somebody else echoed: "Brilliant Susan. Our boys and lassies will be waiting with open arms."
Scotland's World Cup Campaign
Scotland returns to Boston Stadium tonight for their second World Cup game against Morocco, broadcast live at 11pm BST. It's a big night after their 1-0 win against Haiti last Saturday (June 13) sent them to the top of group C. Scotland's win came as their first World Cup victory in 36 years after McGinn scored in the 28th minute.
There are hopes that if Scotland has another successful game tonight, they will qualify for the knockout stages for the first time in World Cup history. Despite being opponents, the Tartan Army was seen partying with Morocco fans outside a pub in Boston as they united in celebration ahead of tonight's game.
Next week, Scotland will face Brazil at Miami Stadium on Wednesday (June 24) in their final match before the knockout stages begin.
