Unseen Jimi Hendrix Archive Display Praised as Surreal

A collection of previously unseen material belonging to rock legend Jimi Hendrix has gone on display at Handel Hendrix House in London, with his former assistant's grandson describing the exhibition as 'surreal'.

Grandson's Reflection

Jonathan Garcia, grandson of Patricia 'Trixie' Sullivan, who worked as Hendrix's personal assistant in the 1960s, said he believes his grandmother would be emotional seeing the display. 'It's pretty surreal. I've spent about three months going through the archive, not really knowing what I was looking at,' he told the Press Association. 'To see people who know what they're looking at put it all together – especially about nan – it's really special.'

Grandmother's Trailblazing Career

Ms Sullivan, now 83, spent her 20s managing daily affairs for Hendrix and his band, forging a trailblazing career in music, entertainment, and fashion. The new display at the Mayfair venue, which is Hendrix's restored 1960s flat, includes corporate documents from Anim Records, the company that managed The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Claire Davies, deputy director and lead curator of Handel Hendrix House, emphasized the significance of the location. 'It was the only place that he ever got to furnish and put his mark on, and it's such an important part of his London story,' she said. The exhibition, titled Hendrix In London, is now open with adult tickets priced at £14.50.

Hendrix's Legacy

Hendrix, who died in 1970 at age 27, is widely regarded as the greatest guitarist of all time. His iconic albums with the Experience – Are You Experienced (1967), Axis: Bold as Love (1967), and Electric Ladyland (1968) – remain influential. Garcia reflected on discovering his grandmother's role: 'It was a way of me discovering my nan a bit and that part of her life she didn't really talk about.'
