Trisha Goddard Gives Health Update After Hospital Return

Trisha Goddard has issued a fresh update on her breast cancer journey after returning to hospital earlier this year. The TV presenter, now 68, first faced the disease in 2008 and beat it, but in July 2022 she learned the cancer had returned as stage four breast cancer.

It had spread to her hip, and she was told it was treatable but not curable. The news followed a fall at home that left her with a shattered femur and severe pain.

Appearance on Good Morning Britain

On Wednesday, October 21, Trisha appeared on Good Morning Britain, where co-host Richard Madeley said: "You look exactly the same. I mean, you're in really good nick aren't you?"

Trisha replied: "I am actually. I'm healthier than a lot of people that don't have cancer. No, I mean that seriously. I mean, I'm probably looked after better than most people who have cancer."

On 'Life-Limited' Terminology

She explained: "It's stage four. This use of 'terminal' is no longer used, it's called 'life-limited' now, because there are people who live 5, 10, 15, 20 years with cancer."

She added: "And that's just the point. They don't keep records of that because the thinking still is, and it still is with the general public: 'You get stage four, that's it.' It's over."

Progress in Treatment and Support

Trisha noted how much treatment has advanced: "When I went through breast cancer in 2008, the treatment and I had been is unrecognisable to now."

She spoke about the support she receives from her cancer centre in Connecticut, where she lives with her fourth husband, Allen: "I get free massage, a gym membership with personal trainers who are trained to work with people living with cancer."

She also revealed she has a psychologist once a week and her own counsellors, adding: "I get my blood results four minutes after my bloods are taken, when my scans are taken, I have to wait a whole three hours. And it's all on my phone, all my information."

Hospital Return Earlier This Year

Earlier this year, Trisha shared on social media that she was back in hospital, posting a photo with the caption: "Ho-hum…. Another day – another procedure!"

She wrote about receiving steroid injections for aches and pains left by cancer and radiation treatment, describing it as "One of the few massive needles I'm always really glad to see!"

Good Morning Britain airs Monday to Friday from 6am on ITV1.
