Timothée Chalamet's failure to win the Oscar for Best Actor has led to him being branded the ceremony's 'laughing stock', with sources claiming his relationship with Kylie Jenner is now under serious strain. The 30-year-old actor lost out to Michael B Jordan for his role in Sinners, after a controversial awards season campaign that included mocking opera and ballet, dressing in all white to the Oscars, and wearing matching outfits with Jenner.
Insiders say friends and family are urging Chalamet to distance himself from the Kardashian-Jenner clan, blaming their 'no-press-is-bad-press' approach for his defeat. 'Everyone in the industry is saying he would have won if he'd played things differently,' a source revealed. 'A lot of people in his camp are blaming the influence of the Kardashians.'
The relationship has long faced opposition from Chalamet's sister Pauline, who reportedly gave Jenner the 'cold shoulder' at the Oscars. A family member previously described the couple as 'complete opposites', suggesting Jenner is only with Chalamet to stay in the spotlight. Despite this, the source insists the pair are happy, but Chalamet's career remains his 'first love'.
With Chalamet set to begin filming Dune: Part 3, those close to him are warning him to focus on work. 'It's hard to see how this isn't going to cause serious strain between them,' the insider added. Jenner's camp, however, dismisses suggestions she is a 'hanger on', pointing to her self-made billionaire status.
