Tennis Influencer Eyes BBC Role After Castle Exit

Rachel Stuhlmann, known as the 'world's sexiest tennis influencer', has put herself forward for a potential BBC tennis broadcasting role after Andrew Castle left the corporation. Castle, 62, had been a voice of Wimbledon for over 20 years but quit after BBC bosses sought to change coverage and offered him a lesser role.

Castle's Departure Opens Door for New Talent

Castle told the Times that BBC Sport leaders wanted to alter their approach, leading to changes in his job responsibilities. He opted to leave entirely, with the recent championship marking his final appearance for the broadcaster. This shift has created opportunities for fresh tennis coverage.

Stuhlmann's Background and Social Media Success

Stuhlmann, 34, went viral for her court-side photos in skimpy attire and has built a following of 304,000 on Instagram and 60,000 on TikTok. She played NCAA Division I tennis for the University of Missouri from 2010 to 2014, earning national rankings in singles and doubles. After her playing career, she moved into journalism and modelling, working for Top Court as a writer and media manager.

In December 2023, she suffered a spinal injury in a car accident requiring surgery but later said she was "extremely thankful" for her recovery.

Stuhlmann's Vision for Sports Media

Asked if content creators could be used more by mainstream broadcasters like the BBC, Stuhlmann told Daily Star Sport: "I definitely think that's where sports media is heading. Traditional broadcasters and creators each bring different strengths. Broadcasters have incredible storytelling, production quality, and credibility, while creators often have a closer relationship with audiences and understand how fans consume content today."

She added: "The best coverage, in my opinion, combines both. I'd absolutely be interested in working with the BBC or other major broadcasters. I've spent years covering professional tennis from multiple angles - as a presenter, host, writer, content creator, and strategist - and I think that experience allows me to connect with both traditional tennis audiences and the next generation of fans. Ultimately, my goal has always been the same: help more people discover how incredible tennis really is."

Wimbledon Tribute and Future Ambitions

In 2023, Stuhlmann wore a Union Jack bikini to pay tribute to Wimbledon. She regularly posts from tennis tournaments worldwide and aims to "keep pushing the sport of tennis forwards". Her combination of playing experience and digital savvy positions her as a candidate to refresh BBC's Wimbledon coverage.
