Sydney Sweeney underwent a significant body transformation for her role as boxing legend Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic 'Christy'. The 'Euphoria' star gained 30lbs through three and a half months of intense weight training and dietary changes, leaving her almost unrecognisable.
After filming wrapped, Sweeney had just seven weeks to return to her previous weight for her roles in 'The Housemaid' and the third season of 'Euphoria'. She described the process as both physically and mentally challenging, telling People: 'I had to be really strict with myself.'
The 28-year-old actress explained that the first step was to stop the protein shakes and creatine that had helped her bulk up. 'When you stop working out and taking all your protein shakes, you lose muscle super fast,' she said. 'It's the first thing to go before fat. So, that, I dropped within two weeks.'
Sweeney also adopted a 'super clean' diet and incorporated 'a lot of cardio' to shed the weight. She credited her fast metabolism for making the process easier, though she acknowledged the mental toll: 'It was definitely a mental challenge and almost a physical withdrawal from being able to work out so much.'
Reflecting on the transformation, Sweeney told W magazine that she had to change her wardrobe entirely, going from a size 23 to a size 27 in jeans. 'My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong,' she said.
