Sue Perkins and Anna Richardson have spoken publicly for the first time about their break-up in 2020, revealing they did not speak for a long time after the split. The pair appeared together on Anna's podcast, It Can't Just Be Me, to discuss how they transitioned from a romantic relationship to a friendship.
Perkins, 54, said: 'You have to sort of detonate parts of the familiar in order to grow new things, different ways of being, which are born out of friendship.' She added that a period of no contact was helpful, followed by slowly voicing painful issues and letting them go.
Richardson noted that she missed 'the love but also the fun' from their eight-year relationship. Perkins responded: 'All that love can be repurposed into a friendship, I really believe that.' The pair first began dating in 2013 after meeting at a Halloween party.
Reports at the time of the split suggested that nobody else was involved, and that the decision was amicable. A source told the MailOnline that Perkins did not want to start a family, while Richardson had considered adoption. Richardson later told OK! Magazine that heartbreak remains a mystery to be solved.
