Strictly viewers slam Shirley Ballas over 'harsh' comments

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have criticised Shirley Ballas over her "harsh" comments during week three of the BBC competition. The feedback for Emmerdale's Lawrence Robb's Rumba left a sour taste for fans at home.

Shirley Ballas's Strictly Role

The 65-year-old joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. She became the Head Judge, replacing Len Goodman, for the 15th series of the show. Known as the "Queen of Latin", Shirley sits alongside fellow judges Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke as they cast their votes on the celebrities taking part.

Last year, Karen Carney and Carlos Gu took home the Glitterball trophy, and it also marked the end of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman's Strictly stint. Now, Emma Willis, Josh Widdecombe and Johannes Radebe have stepped into the spotlight, along with a new set of celebrity faces.

Week Three Feedback

Last week, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton and partner Amy Dowden were the first to be eliminated following a dance off with Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu. As the stars arrived into week three, it appeared to be a tough night for many contestants as the judges decided not to play so nicely.

Instead of Craig Revel Horwood being Saturday night's "baddie", Shirley Ballas received criticism from viewers at home for her unusually "harsh" comments. It came after Lawrence Robb danced the Rumba, which didn't impress the former head judge. She said it wasn't her "cup of tea", adding that she'd have loved to have seen him "dance more".

Viewer Reactions

Craig disagreed, labelling her a "fun sponge", to which viewers were also in agreement. On X, @slinehan1 wrote: "Shirley really is in a harsh mood this week lmao. Although I have agreed with everything she's said so far."

@amyjoanne__ agreed: "Shirley really is harsh with her scores tonight." @davidorchiston echoed: "I do think that Shirley was a bit harsh with Lawrence tonight tbh."
