Security Guard Assumes Full Responsibility for Hotel Altercation Involving Singer Chappell Roan
A security guard has publicly accepted "full responsibility" for a distressing incident at a Brazilian hotel that resulted in the stepdaughter of footballer Jorginho being reduced to tears. The altercation involved singer Catherine Harding, also known as Cat Cavelli, and her young daughter, who is the child of her former partner, actor Jude Law.
Details of the Confrontation Emerge
In a statement posted on Instagram, celebrity bodyguard Pascal Duvier clarified that he was working on behalf of another, unnamed individual at the time of the interaction and was not part of Chappell Roan's personal security team. "I do not normally address online rumours, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation. I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st," Duvier wrote.
He further explained, "I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals."
Mother's Account of the Incident
Catherine Harding provided her version of events in a video shared on Instagram. She recounted that her daughter spotted Chappell Roan while they were having breakfast at the same hotel. According to Harding, the child did not have her phone or approach the singer but simply smiled as she walked past Roan's table.
Harding claimed that a security guard then approached them to "berate and scold" them, speaking in what she described as an "aggressive tone." This encounter left her daughter extremely upset, with Jorginho later stating that the little girl was "extremely shaken and cried a lot" following the incident.
Chappell Roan's Response and Clarifications
Chappell Roan has since stated that she was completely unaware of the incident and confirmed that the security guard in question was not part of her personal detail. A representative for Roan issued a statement saying, "Chappell was not aware of any interaction between this mother/daughter and a third-party security officer. She did not see them at breakfast in her hotel, as she said in her video. She did not direct her personal security or anyone on her team to interact with them."
The statement continued, "Chappell holds her own teams to the highest standards and has zero tolerance for any kind of aggressive behaviour towards her or her fans."
Aftermath and Broader Context
Harding revealed that tickets to see Chappell Roan perform at the Lollapalooza festival in Sao Paolo had been a birthday gift for her daughter. She expressed that the experience had been "ruined" by the hotel incident, and consequently, they did not attend the show.
In a previous video shared on Instagram, Roan addressed the situation, stating, "They did not come up to me. They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions when they have no reason to believe, because there's no action even taken."
This incident occurs against the backdrop of Roan's previous comments about fan boundaries. The Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, had previously criticised "entitled" fans for their "creepy" behaviour in a series of TikTok videos in 2024, emphasising the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries between celebrities and their admirers.
Catherine Harding, who is married to former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, shares a son with the footballer. The couple married in Lake Como, Italy, last year, and Jorginho now plays for Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro. Jorginho has two children from a previous marriage to Natalia Leteri.
