X Factor champion Sam Bailey was taken to hospital by ambulance with her young son Tommy after he suffered a “massive seizure”. The singer, who won the competition in 2013, shared an emotional video on social media from beside his hospital bed.
Second seizure in five weeks
Tommy, who has epilepsy, has experienced two seizures in just five weeks despite being on medication for the condition. The latest incident left his mother fearing he had concussion. Speaking in a whisper from the children's A&E, Sam said: “Hi peeps. So I’m in hospital with my son. He’s had a seizure, so we’re in children’s A&E.”
She added: “We’ve been here for almost seven hours. It’s now 2:40 in the morning. We came in by ambulance at like 7:30pm last night. Tom’s asleep. He may have concussion, hence why we’re staying in, but we still don’t know why he’s having seizures, even though he’s on medication for epilepsy. They should stop the seizures, but he’s had two in five weeks. So we’re not sure what’s going on.”
Busy night on the ward
Describing the scene on the ward, Sam said: “There’s lots of screaming, lots of drama – I feel like I’m on the set of Holby City. I’m not joking. The drama in here; security restraining someone, screaming babies, effing and blinding on the ward and the nurses and doctors running ragged. We’re thankfully tucked away in a room that’s kind of soundproof.”
She noted that the family had still not seen a doctor after nearly seven hours, saying: “They’re doing their best, but yeah we’ve been here almost seven hours now. Still not seen a doctor. It’s really busy for a Monday night. Very busy.”
Fans send support
In her caption, Sam reiterated: “What was supposed to be a nice day off from work with family ended with my son having a massive seizure. Most of you know he has epilepsy and is medicated, but he has had 2 big seizures in 5 weeks. This one today, he suffered an injury to his face, causing him to have concussion. We were blue lighted to hospital and have been here for almost 7 hours so far.”
She added: “These doctors and nurses are working their a****s off and I commend every single one of them! Hopefully we don’t have to pull an all-nighter here as the blue armchairs are not made for sleeping in! Tommy is fine btw, sleeping it off, but he has concussion and we need some answers for his seizures.”
Fans responded with messages of support in the comments, with one writing: “Sending you heaps of love and your lovely son heaps of healing vibes.” Another echoed: “Sending love! Wishing your son a speedy recovery.”
