Green Gates Merchant City, an Indian restaurant in Glasgow, has been named the 4th best in the UK for casual dining in Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards' Best of the Best Restaurants 2026. The venue, located in Merchant City, also made the world list for the first time, ranking No.5 in the vegan and vegetarian restaurants category.
Menu and accolades
The restaurant is known for its traditional style curries and a unique tapas style menu offering both meat and veggie dishes. Main meal options include classic curries such as Tikka Masala, Chicken Chasni, Korma and Lamb Bhoona. The tapas menu features 18 meat-based options and an additional 26 vegetarian choices.
Green Gates' accolades appear well deserved based on nearly 3,000 glowing reviews, with foodies hailing it as 'first class'. One recent customer wrote: "Best curry place in town by far! Service is excellent. Food is just outstanding. Just first class all round." Another echoed: "If I could give more stars I would. Tapas is the best. It was outstanding."
Deal for two
Those wanting to try the menu can take advantage of an Itison deal for £34 for two, which includes five tapas to share at £17pp. The deal can be upgraded to five tapas and a rice or naan to share with a glass of wine each for £20pp. The offer is valid until next month and can be booked directly on the Itison website.
Green Gates has been a hit with locals since it opened on Candleriggs in 2019, offering home style regional cuisine from the north and south of India. Speaking about the award, the Tripadvisor team said: "The 2026 Travellers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Restaurants are part of Tripadvisor’s larger Travellers’ Choice Awards umbrella, recognising travellers’ favourite destinations and experiences around the world."
They added: "The Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards are determined based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings specific to each subcategory posted on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period. They are backed by an editorial review process that places winners among the top 1 per cent of listings on the platform."
