Ronan Keating, the renowned pop star, became a grandfather at the age of 46 when his elder son Jack's former partner, Keely Iqbal, welcomed a daughter named Maya in 2023. However, despite this new family role, Ronan remains hesitant to embrace the traditional 'Grandad' title, as revealed by his son Jack in a recent interview with the Daily Mail.
Family Dynamics and Grandparent Titles
Jack Keating, aged 26, whose mother is Ronan's first wife, model Yvonne Connolly, 51, shared insights into how his parents have adapted to their grandparenting roles. "My mam has fully embraced the Granny title – she absolutely loves it," Jack explained. In contrast, he noted, "My dad loves being a grandad, but he doesn't like being called Grandad."
The television personality, currently appearing on Love Island: All Stars, elaborated that Ronan prefers alternative nicknames such as "Pops" or "Papa." Jack suggested this preference stems from a desire to avoid feeling older, stating, "I think it makes him feel a bit too old."
Jack Keating's Fatherhood and Love Island Experience
Jack's journey into fatherhood has been intertwined with his television career. He first entered the Love Island villa during the eighth series in 2022, but his stint lasted merely five days before he was eliminated. In March 2023, he announced on Instagram the birth of his daughter Maya, which led to speculation among viewers about his prior knowledge during his initial Love Island appearance.
Addressing these rumours, Jack insisted it was a complete surprise, describing the revelation of his secret parenthood to the public as "terrifying." He later clarified to the Daily Mail, "As soon as I came off Love Island, seven months later, I became a dad. No, I didn't know before going on the show."
Reflecting on this period, Jack admitted, "Adjusting to life after Love Island was hard enough but then I had to deal with being a father… But it has been the most amazing year and a half of my entire life."
Return to Love Island and Recent Villa Drama
Jack re-entered the Love Island villa last month for a second attempt at finding romance, following his split from ex-girlfriend Abby Phillips at the end of 2024. His return has not been without awkward moments, as highlighted in a recent episode of Love Island: All Stars.
Viewers cringed as they watched Jack attempt to make a move on fellow contestant Whitney Adebayo, aged 28. In a scene on the day beds, Jack persistently asked Whitney for a kiss, which she reluctantly granted with a brief "peck" on the lips, citing discomfort due to bombshell Konnor Ewudsi watching nearby.
Fans expressed their second-hand embarrassment on social media platform X, with comments such as "All Jack wants to do is kiss" and "Can Jack stop asking for kisses it's so cringe." Others criticised his approach, noting, "Sorry Jack has Zero game. Can't flirt, Everything is I would love a kiss," and "The only thing that comes out from Jack's mouth when he speaks to Whitney 'I want to kiss you... I would love a kiss'. He needs to have more personality."
Initially, any potential romance between Jack and Whitney seemed unlikely after Whitney admitted she would never date someone with a child. However, she later reversed this decision, leading to a kiss between the pair on the terrace, adding another layer to the villa's complex dynamics.
This blend of family revelations and reality television drama underscores the ongoing public fascination with the Keating family, as Jack navigates fatherhood, fame, and his quest for love on national television.
