Ripa and Consuelos Announce Father's Death on Live Show

In a deeply emotional segment on Monday's episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos announced the passing of Consuelos' father, Saul. The couple shared that Saul had died peacefully after a prolonged illness, prompting raw and heartfelt reflections on his life and legacy.

A Family's Profound Loss

Ripa became visibly emotional as she spoke about her father-in-law, whom she described as 'the greatest person I've ever known'. She admitted that the loss has profoundly impacted their entire family, stating, 'I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will.'

The couple's three children—Michael Consuelos, 28, Lola Consuelos, 24, and Joaquin Consuelos, 23—are particularly struggling with this first significant loss in their lives. Ripa noted that Saul often served as a babysitter when the children were younger, creating cherished bonds that make his absence especially painful.

Mark Consuelos' Tribute to His Father

Consuelos reflected on his father's influence, recalling both practical lessons and deeper wisdom. 'There were a lot of lectures, and I learned so much,' he said. 'If he was fixing something in the house, he'd make me watch and do it. I didn't know at the time why he was doing that, but now I'm able to do at least half of the stuff he did. I learned the most by just watching him.'

An Immigrant's American Dream

Consuelos also opened up about his father's remarkable journey from Mexico to the United States. Saul immigrated in his early teens and went on to serve his adopted country for thirty years, ultimately working at Special Operations Command in Tampa.

'This young kid from Mexico just got his education from the navy,' Consuelos explained. 'He was always going to school, was brilliant, and got his Masters while I was a kid. If you're going to put a face to an immigrant, he would be the prime example of what this country promises people.'

A Final Thank You

Wiping away tears, Ripa turned to her husband with words of admiration and gratitude. 'You're the strongest person I know. You continually inspire me every day,' she said. 'All of the good things that I love about you, I loved those same things about your dad. So I just want to say thank you, dad, for everything you gave to us. Everything.'

The segment served as both a public announcement and a touching tribute, highlighting Saul Consuelos' enduring impact on his family and his embodiment of the immigrant experience in America.
