Prince Harry's recent interview with GQ magazine about reconciling with his family has sparked a mixed response, but one broadcaster believes members of the Royal Family are right to keep their distance from him.
The Duke of Sussex's relationship with his family, particularly his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, has been strained for several years. Tensions escalated when Prince Harry, 42, and Meghan Markle, 45, stepped down as working royals and relocated to California in 2020.
Years of Public Accusations
What followed were years of public accusations from the Sussexes, including in their interview with Oprah Winfrey and Harry's memoir, Spare. Harry and William, 44, reportedly haven't spoken since 2022, and while King Charles wants to see his two sons reunite, the chance of a reconciliation seems unlikely.
In a new interview with GQ Magazine, Harry opened up about his hopes of repairing his relationship with his family. While Harry admitted that he would like to reconcile with his family, he claimed that "some people don't want it" to happen.
Broadcaster's Criticism
Writer and broadcaster Esther Krakue has now claimed that the interview has gone down "like a lead balloon" as she criticised Harry for speaking to GQ Magazine instead of speaking to his family directly.
"The more Prince Harry talks, the more you realise that the Royal Family are very sensible to keep their distance," she said. She mentioned the private details included in Spare, and Meghan's claim that concerns had been raised about the colour of their son Archie's skin before his birth.
"He now goes on GQ to try and reconcile. Reconcile to what? Why doesn't he learn a lesson? Just keep his mouth shut," she added. "If he wants to reconcile his family, a bit of an apology and a bit of a phone call to dad. That will probably do it."
Echoes from GB News
Despite Harry's hopes to reconcile, many believe his repeated public comments about the family could be undermining his efforts to build bridges. GB News presenter Alex Armstrong echoed this sentiment on the Daily Expresso podcast with JJ Anisobi, who said: "William doesn't want anything to do with Harry."
"Sources are saying - I think this is the worst sentence they could get from William - he's no longer angry, he just feels apathy towards his brother... If William is not willing to reconcile, do you think Harry should now shut up and never answer another question about the Royal Family?"
Alex responded: "It would help if he just stopped talking about it all and just said to journalists 'I don't want to talk about that, I want to talk about this charity work I'm doing.' If he wants to have that reconciliation, he's got to shut up."
