Prince Harry wants reconciliation but William 'has no intention'

Prince Harry has publicly expressed his desire to mend relations with his royal family members in an interview with GQ magazine. The Duke of Sussex revealed that one of the key factors behind his and Meghan Markle's decision to return to the UK was to be nearer to his relatives.

Return to the UK

The pair made the shocking announcement to step back from their duties as senior working royals in 2020 and moved to Montecito in California. While living in the US, Harry and Meghan participated in numerous prominent interviews and featured in their own Netflix series, Finding Freedom, which explored their experiences within the royal family and included various claims about their relations. The Duke of Sussex subsequently released his memoir, Spare, containing further allegations.

Then, in August, the couple revealed they were moving back to the UK with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The youngsters are now attending their second school following concerns raised by Harry and Meghan's security personnel regarding the commute to and from their initial preference, reports the Daily Star.

Harry's plea for reconciliation

The duke has now spoken candidly to GQ magazine about his journey through grief and expressed his hope to repair relationships with his family following his return to the UK. He said: "Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile - that's the key point."

"Scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past, that's something that I would encourage everybody to do."

William's reaction

The two brothers are not thought to have resolved their rift since Harry's return from America, with William and Catherine indicating at the time they wished to "look to the future". Friends of the couple revealed they were determined to steer clear of the "drama" around Meghan and Harry's return.

Meanwhile, a source close to William has disclosed how the Prince of Wales currently feels now Harry has made his position clear regarding a potential reconciliation. They said: "There isn't a world right now where the Prince of Wales can imagine repairing the relationship with his brother. He remains deeply hurt over the many things the Duke of Sussex has said publicly about him and other family members."

"Look at what the family is doing just this week: a significantly important State Visit, commemorating the tragedy that occurred in Aberfan 60 years ago, and preparations being made for major royal tours in the immediate future. He has no intention of engaging with Harry."

"This is what matters to the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the King and Queen - and that certainly doesn't include responding to the Duke of Sussex every time he pops up doing yet another interview."
