Prince Harry Joked About Wealth in Podcast by Friend JJ Chalmers

Prince Harry was the subject of a light-hearted joke about his wealth during a recent appearance on the We'll See You Now podcast, hosted by Joe Marler. Close friend and former Royal Marine JJ Chalmers quipped that the Duke of Sussex should always be the one buying a round because "he's got money." The exchange occurred as the pair reflected on their friendship, military service, and the lasting impact of the Invictus Games.

Podcast Exchange Highlights

Asked what Prince Harry is like during a night out, Chalmers explained that they rarely have the chance to let loose because the Duke's presence inevitably attracts attention. "A lot of the time when we're out it's like an Invictus gala," he said. "You get a bunch of veterans together."

Prince Harry admitted he often worries about becoming a distraction when spending time with fellow servicemen and women. "I kind of want the guys to have their own fun and with me comes extra prying eyes," he said. "That's the annoying bit." Chalmers reassured his friend, praising him for always making time for people despite the attention.

Round-Buying Joke

The conversation turned to a question many pub-goers might ask. "Does he ever get a round in?" the host asked. "Yeah, of course, he gets a round in," Chalmers laughed. "I know he's got money." The quip prompted laughter from everyone in the studio before the discussion moved on to embarrassing stories from military life and humorous anecdotes.

Invictus Games Impact

While the interview featured plenty of jokes, it also highlighted the importance of the Invictus Games, which Prince Harry founded in 2014 for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans. Chalmers, who was seriously injured in an explosion while serving in Afghanistan in 2011, spoke emotionally about how the Games transformed his life after years of recovery. "The pitch that I was given by him 12 years ago was sport's recovery for wounded, injured and sick service personnel," he explained. "It totally changed my life." He described meeting Prince Harry several years after his injury as one of the defining moments of his recovery.

Birmingham's Significance for 2027 Games

The pair also discussed why Birmingham will hold special significance when it hosts the 2027 Invictus Games. Chalmers noted that many British service personnel injured in Iraq and Afghanistan began their recovery in Birmingham after being flown back to the UK. "You woke up in either Selly Oak, the military hospital, or the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham," he said. "I've always loved this place. I'll always know that I owe it my life. To come back and have a different experience of it is amazing. It's going to be special."

Invictus Spirit Born in Hospital Ward

Prince Harry agreed, saying Birmingham's connection to wounded veterans made it the perfect host city. "When you talk about the Invictus spirit, this thing we've created, where that was actually born wasn't in London in 2014," he said. "It was born in Ward 412 in Birmingham Hospital. That's where the unconquered surviving thing began." The Duke praised competitors as role models whose resilience extends beyond the military community. "They represent the armed forces globally like no one else could," he said. "This isn't just about the armed forces. This isn't just about having a disability. Anyone who's going through something in life can learn through their lived experience."
