Peter Andre has opened up about the key to his successful marriage with wife Emily MacDonagh, admitting that his perspective on relationships has evolved over time. The singer, who tied the knot with Emily in 2015, told Closer Magazine that personality now outweighs looks in his view of an ideal partner.
Andre, 46, explained: 'I used to not understand it when people said, "It's not about looks, it's about personality." But actually, relationship-wise, that's exactly what it is. Over time, it 100 per cent depends on how you get on. That ends up being the key factor as to whether relationships work or not.' He added that when you're in love, physical changes become unnoticeable, though he described Emily as 'absolutely stunning'.
The father of four also spoke about his own body insecurities, noting that he no longer feels comfortable walking on the beach without a shirt on, despite his famous 'Mysterious Girl' physique from the 1990s. He said he is trying to teach his children that social media is a 'fake place' and that 'looks aren't everything', praising Loose Women star Stacey Solomon for her realistic online presence.
Meanwhile, Emily, a doctor, recently appeared to criticise unnecessary cosmetic procedures in her OK! magazine column, just weeks after Katie Price underwent a facelift in Turkey. Emily wrote: 'I think it's the surgeon's responsibility as well to give honest advice about whether or not someone needs surgery. If you're paying for a procedure it's easy for surgeons to just agree to do it and take the money, but really their responsibility is to ensure they don't do anything unnecessary.'
