Mike Tyson has publicly criticised Hulu's upcoming series 'Iron Mike', calling it 'tone deaf' and 'inappropriate' for announcing the project during Black History Month without his authorisation or compensation.
The boxing legend took to Instagram to express his displeasure, stating that Hulu's announcement 'on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu's corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.'
Tyson emphasised that the unauthorised series 'couldn't be more inappropriate or tone deaf,' and accused Hulu of 'stealing a black athlete's story' without respect for black story rights. He added that the real authorised Tyson story is in development and will be announced soon.
'Iron Mike' has been given an eight-episode order at Hulu and is said to explore Tyson's life and career. The series reunites key players from the Oscar-winning film 'I, Tonya', including writer Steven Rogers and director Craig Gillespie, with Margot Robbie executive producing.
Tyson, now 54, became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at age 20. His life outside the ring has been marked by controversy, including a rape conviction and allegations of abuse. Hulu has declined to comment on Tyson's remarks.
