Paul Nicholas, best known for his role as Vince in the 1980s sitcom Just Good Friends, has candidly acknowledged that his days as a heartthrob are behind him. The 77-year-old actor, who once received stacks of love letters from adoring fans, now describes himself as an 'almost bald old chap' trying to hold on to his remaining hair.
Speaking to the Mirror, Nicholas dismissed any notion of cosmetic enhancements, stating he would not resort to Botox or similar procedures. 'Ageing comes to all of us and I am what I am,' he said. The actor, who sported curly blonde locks during his heyday, admitted he wishes he still looked like he used to but accepts the natural process of growing older.
Nicholas reflected on his rise to fame, calling it 'flattering' when fans recognised him in the street. He made a point of being polite and signing autographs. Despite his iconic role, he is unlikely to return to Just Good Friends, which was created by John Sullivan. Nicholas praised Sullivan's writing and recalled the special feeling when he first read the script.
The actor, who also played Gavin Sullivan in EastEnders, continues to work, currently touring in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel until June 2023. He has no plans to retire. Married to second wife Linzi Jennings for 38 years, Nicholas has six children, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, crediting his wife for his happiness.
