Beloved television icon Paul Chuckle has reassured his legion of fans after suffering a painful fall at his home. The 78-year-old comedian, famed for the hit BBC show ChuckleVision, took to social media to share the news, complete with his trademark humour.
A Painful Mishap at Home
Paul Chuckle, whose real name is Paul Elliott, tripped while walking up the wooden stairs in his house on Thursday evening. In an interview with Express.co.uk, the entertainer explained the accident, stating he put his arms out to stop his fall but hit the back of his elbow hard on the steps.
"I actually fell and I think I've broken my elbow," he revealed before heading to hospital for an X-ray. He later posted a photograph on Instagram showing his arm in a sling, captioning it with the familiar catchphrase: "Oh dear oh dear oh dear! ! ! Tripped UP the wooden stairs ... thankfully not on the ice, keep safe guys."
Fans Rally with Support and Well-Wishes
The update prompted an immediate and heartfelt response from supporters across the country. Followers quickly flooded the comments section of his post with messages hoping for a swift recovery for the comedy legend.
This incident comes at a significant time for Paul, who was recently awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list. He is scheduled to visit the Palace later this year to receive the prestigious award.
Honours for Charity Work and a Lasting Legacy
The MBE recognises Paul Chuckle's exceptional dedication to the end-of-life charity Marie Curie. He and his late brother Barry were appointed official ambassadors for the charity in October 2016.
Together, the legendary duo, who delighted audiences for over five decades on television and in pantomime, contributed greatly to fundraising efforts. Following Barry's passing in 2018, Paul has continued his active role as an ambassador.
Paul expressed that receiving the honour was a "huge surprise." He told Express.co.uk that when the official letter arrived in November, he initially mistook it for hospital correspondence due to the blue envelope. "I had no clue whatsoever. I opened it up and it was just a fabulous feeling," he said.
The star, who remains a cherished figure in British entertainment, is now focusing on his recovery from the fall.
