Paloma Faith Reveals 'Guilt and Stigma' Over Family Breakup

Paloma Faith Speaks Candidly About Emotional Struggles After Family Breakup

In a deeply personal and emotional interview on ITV's This Morning this Wednesday, singer Paloma Faith, 44, revealed she was wracked with intense feelings of "guilt and stigma" following her breakup with the father of her two children. The New York-born artist, who is currently expecting her third child with partner and music venue director Stevie Thomas, expressed profound relief and happiness at having "created a joyful house again" with her modern blended family.

Navigating Single Motherhood and New Beginnings

Faith was previously in a relationship with artist Leyman Lahcine from 2013 to 2022, with whom she shares two daughters, aged nine and four. She described the complex emotions surrounding the end of that relationship, particularly the weight of responsibility she felt as a mother. "This feeling of guilt and responsibility for ending a relationship that I had children in took some time," she confessed during the broadcast. "I learned to be a single mum, and then fell in love again, and just thought, 'Well, life, you get one.' And so now I'm having another baby, and it's so nice."

The singer emphasized that her current family situation is harmonious and positive. "My now blended family is 'very modern' and 'everyone gets on really well'," she stated. "There's no animosity, and I'm a bit like, I can't even believe this is my life." Faith shared a touching anecdote about her mother's perspective, revealing that her mum considered the way she handled the breakup to be one of her "greatest achievements," noting she maintained an "amazing relationship" with her children's father while moving forward to create happiness anew.

Creative Inspiration from Personal Turmoil

Admitting that she feels "inspired" to create again, Faith connected her latest musical work directly to her personal journey. Her upcoming release, The Glorification of Sadness Concert Film, set to premiere on February 22, features footage from her 2024 tour and addresses the dissolution of her previous relationship. "The concert we've put out is about the ending of my relationship with my children's dad. There was so much stigma attached to that," she explained. The album documents not only the breakdown but also her subsequent path to reclaiming her identity, serving as a therapeutic outlet for the artist.

Beyond her music, Faith remains busy with multiple projects, including her podcast Mad, Sad and Bad with Paloma Faith, and is due to welcome her third child in the first half of this year. Her openness about these experiences highlights her resilience and commitment to authenticity in both her personal and professional life.

Lighthearted Moments and Forgiveness

Elsewhere in the interview, Faith touched on lighter topics, including her experience on the celebrity edition of The Traitors, where she was "murdered" by comedian Alan Carr. She expressed no hard feelings, stating she was "completely shocked" to discover he was a traitor but has since forgiven him. "My mum will not hear a bad word said against Alan," she laughed, adding that they have collaborated on humorous social media content post-show. "I'm just like, privileged for any second with him... It's completely impossible for me to hold a grudge."

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX, offering viewers more insights into Faith's heartfelt revelations and ongoing projects.
