Nicole Richie Calls Daughter 'Gorg' Amid Hair Change

Nicole Richie has called her daughter Kate Madden 'gorg,' short for gorgeous, on social media. The 44-year-old Simple Life veteran commented on Kate's Instagram post featuring an image from their evening out on Monday, when they attended a Los Angeles premiere together.

Mother-Daughter Night Out

In the photo, the 18-year-old looked serious as she stared at the camera with perfect hair and makeup. Nicole's younger sister Sofia Richie liked the post, while their mother Brenda Richie, who was married to Lionel Richie from 1975 until 1993, commented, 'Beautiful. I love you so much.'

This comes after Kate's transformation from being a blonde named Harlow, her birth name, to a black-haired Kate, which is her middle name. Richie explained the change to People earlier this year, saying Harlow has been using her middle name for a long time. 'Yeah, she goes by her middle name. She has her whole life,' Richie stated.

Premiere Appearance

On Monday, Nicole and Kate attended the premiere of Stop! That! Train! in Los Angeles. The teenager, whose father is Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, wore a goth-inspired strapless leather minidress with black knee-high boots. Her mother looked stylish in a blue-and-white polka-dot floor-length dress with a matching headscarf.

The last time the pair posed together was in April 2024, before the 18-year-old's name change. In January, Richie posted an Instagram birthday tribute to her daughter, sharing throwback images. When she tagged the teenager, it revealed she now goes by her middle name, Kate. Her dramatic transformation was also evident, with Kate swapping her honey-blonde locks for jet-black hair.

Family Life

The TV personality also has a son, Sparrow, 16, with husband Joel. Richie has opened up about raising her two children as teenagers. 'Motherhood is the most wild ride and the absolute best,' she told Interview Magazine in 2024. She also expressed to Glamour, 'I just so clearly remember what it's like to be a teenager. It feels like it happened yesterday for me. And they know everything I did.'

Richie added, 'I knew before I had them that I was going to have to be transparent with them about who I was. And I've actually found freedom in that. I didn't want my kids having some big discovery about me. And I've always been very open and honest with my kids and hope that they are open and honest with me.'

She also told Today that her 'favorite stage' of parenting so far has been raising teenagers. 'I just so clearly remember being 16 that it's actually surprising how quickly I can go back there. When my daughter's telling me drama with her friends, I go, "I remember. Laila Heckmath did that to me." I remember first and last names, so it's fun. It's wild. And just the best.'

Along with balancing motherhood, Richie has been keeping busy with work in the entertainment industry.
