Millie Bobby Brown Sparks Daughter Name Speculation with 'Ruth' Necklace
Millie Bobby Brown's Necklace Sparks Daughter Name Rumors

Millie Bobby Brown fans have become convinced that the actress has revealed her daughter's first name in her latest Instagram post. The 22-year-old star and her husband Jake Bongiovi, 24, announced they had become parents last summer after adopting a little girl, but have been steadfast about keeping all her personal details private.

However, some eagle-eyed fans have claimed that Millie has let slip her child's name after she shared a new selfie of herself posing in a bikini at the beach. Taking the snap from a high angle to show off her stylish two-piece, the Stranger Things star could be seen sporting a dainty silver chain bearing the name 'Ruth'.

Immediately, the comments section was flooded with excited followers speculating that the necklace was a reference to her daughter. They gushed: 'Her necklace says Ruth! Baby name??!!'; 'Ruth is her daughter's name?'; 'Ruth is a beautiful name'; 'Has anyone else noticed Millie is wearing a necklace with the name Ruth?? I wonder what her daughter's name is??'; 'Baby Ruth!'; 'Your daughter's name is Ruth!!! So cute!!'; 'Daughter's name Ruth on necklace?'; 'Awe, if the baby name is actually Ruth then that is actually a beautiful name'; 'Who is Ruth?'

This is not the first time fans have leapt to the conclusion that Millie has hinted at her daughter's name through her accessories. In August, she was seen taking her little girl for a stroll through New York with Jake, while chatting on the phone with the letters 'RWB' emblazoned on the case, sparking speculation that those were her new daughter's initials.

However, many pointed out that the name Ruth already holds huge personal meaning for the Damsel star, as it was the name of her beloved late grandmother, who she has said was 'a huge part of my life'. Lending credence to the theory that the necklace refers to her grandmother, Millie already wears a permanent tribute to Nanny Ruth, having gotten her name tattooed onto her ribs following her sad death in November 2020 from Alzheimer's.

She has frequently opened up about their close bond, previously saying that 'losing her was one of the hardest things I've ever gone through and I don't know if I necessarily healed from it fully.' The Enola Holmes star revealed the news of Ruth's passing on Instagram with a heartfelt tribute, where she called her 'my guardian angel'. Alongside several snaps of her kissing her grandmother on the cheek, she wrote: 'I loved you more than anyone could ever love. I'll tell everyone about you and the lessons you taught me. I'll thank you every day for the laughs and memories you gave me all through out my life so far. I love you nanny. There's no forgetting a soul like this one.'

In 2023, she published her debut novel Nineteen Steps, which was inspired by Ruth's stories about her life during the Second World War. Some fans continued to speculate that Millie had named her daughter Ruth too, in tribute to her grandma. They suggested: 'Ruth it's the name of her grandmother, but I think she gave her baby that name too, really cute'; 'It's her grandmas I think but she could've named her baby after herr soo'; 'No, Ruth is her grandmother's name; the baby's name is Rue, it's very similar, it must be in honor of the grandmother.'

Millie has remained fiercely committed to her and Jake's decision to maintain their daughter's privacy since her adoption, keeping her face, name, and age private. Speaking to British Vogue in December, she reiterated that she has no plans to reveal her child's identity publicly until she is old enough to decide for herself. 'For me, it's really important to protect her and her story until she's old enough to potentially one day share it herself,' the child star explained. 'It's not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly.'

Millie went on to say that she and Jake would support their daughter if she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and 'share her personality one day with the world'. But she resolutely added: 'Right now, as she's so little. As her parents, it's our job to protect her from that.'

The couple shared the news they'd welcomed a baby girl in August, after years of openly discussing their dream of becoming parents, including embracing adoption as a natural part of building their family. In a statement on Instagram, they announced: 'This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.'

Millie has said that she and Jake - whose father is musician Jon Bon Jovi - hope to have more children in the future, as she gushed over what an 'amazing dad' her husband was. 'I really want a big family,' she told Vogue, adding that when it came to parenting duties they are firmly split down the middle. 'We are 50-50 on everything… he is just the most amazing dad.'

Ahead of the adoption, Millie expressed her eagerness to become a mother despite her young age, saying that her mum had also been 21 years old when she had her first baby. Appearing on the Smartless podcast in March last year, she said: 'My mom actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19. And you know, it's been my thing since before I met Jake. Since I was a baby... I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me. And my nan, my grandmother is, she was a huge part of my life. And so, yeah, I mean, Jake knows how important it is to me and, of course, I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer, but I also find it's so important to start a family for me personally.'

'It's a huge thing,' she explained. 'Jake was like, we cannot do that until we get married. So that was his thing. And my thing was, I really want a family.' Millie continued: 'I really want a big family. I'm one of four. He's one of four. So, it is definitely in our future, but, for me, I don't see having your own child, you know, as really any different [from] adopting. My home is full of love for anyone and anything, and so that is what we kind of stand by, Jake and I, our energy in the house is "the door is always open", and we want everyone to feel really comfortable.'

Millie and Jake first started dating in 2021 and announced their engagement in April 2023, before tying the knot in May the following year in a lavish Tuscan ceremony.
