Metallica have told Welsh fans that their nearly 30-year wait to see the band in Wales again was "well worth it" as they shared a new set of images from their record-breaking Principality Stadium show.
The metal icons brought their M72 world tour to Cardiff on June 28, drawing 76,000 fans — the largest live music event ever staged in Wales. The LA rockers posted the photos on Instagram, writing: "It was well worth the nearly 30-year wait, wasn’t it, Cardiff? Let’s take a look at some photos from our gig at Principality Stadium."
Long-Awaited Return to Cardiff
Despite performing to millions worldwide and breaking records throughout their career, this concert marked Metallica's first-ever show at Principality Stadium. The band had last played in Cardiff 30 years ago in 1996, making this the first opportunity for Welsh fans to experience the M72 World Tour production at the home of Welsh rugby.
During their two-hour-plus set, the band tore through a huge selection of hits, ending with "Master of Puppets" and "Enter Sandman."
Community Engagement Before the Show
Before the gig, Metallica showed their class by teaming up with the Welsh Blood Service to encourage blood donations, aiming to "give something meaningful back" to the communities where they appear. They also attended the inaugural Blackbird Festival at Cardiff Castle and dined at a local Cardiff restaurant.
The photos, taken by Brett Murray, include close-ups of the band and crowd shots, shared on Metallica's Instagram which has 14 million followers.
