Mel B Credits Husband Rory McPhee for Positive Personality Transformation
Melanie Brown, the iconic Scary Spice from the legendary Spice Girls, has offered a rare glimpse into her married life with celebrity hairstylist Rory McPhee. The singer, now 50, revealed that her bandmates have wholeheartedly approved of her new husband, citing his remarkable ability to make her a "nicer" person.
A Cathedral Wedding and Lasting Influence
The couple exchanged vows in July 2025 at the historic St. Paul's Cathedral in London, following their engagement in 2022. Mel B explained that Rory's thoughtful nature has profoundly impacted her character, a transformation her fellow Spice Girls observed during their 2019 reunion tour. "On the last tour, all the girls were like: 'You're so much nicer when Rory's around,'" she told Hello! Magazine.
Mel B elaborated: "If I'm in a bit of a mood, he will sort it out. And maybe I'm more thoughtful as he's so thoughtful." She highlighted specific romantic gestures from Rory, including a handwritten book filled with personal notes and photographs designed to comfort her during moments of insecurity.
Rebuilding Trust and Understanding Neurodiversity
Speaking candidly to the publication, Mel B credited Rory with "making her believe in nice guys again." She emphasized his deep understanding of how her ADHD and dyslexia affect her daily life, creating a supportive environment she hadn't experienced in previous relationships. The singer clarified that Rory "feels different" to her former husbands, describing their connection as "real and honest."
Despite having different daily interests—Mel B enjoys television while Rory is more active—she admitted he knows her "inside out" and they share fundamental "wishes, wants and desires."
Family Background and Relationship Timeline
Mel B's family includes Phoenix, 27, from her marriage to Jimmy Gulzar; Angel, 18, with Eddie Murphy; and Madison, 14, from her union with Stephen Belafonte. After divorcing Belafonte in 2017, she developed a friendship with Rory that blossomed into romance.
Spice Girls Reunion Prospects Dim
Her interview coincided with sobering comments about the Spice Girls' future. Mel B revealed she may never perform again with Victoria Beckham, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Geri Horner, despite their "incredible bond." The group originally formed in 1996, split in 2001, but reunited for tours in 2007 and 2019, plus the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.
"I can tell you [a reunion] is not happening. If it does, it'll be a shock to me," she stated, adding that at age 50, she has laid touring aspirations to rest unless all members are genuinely committed.
Netflix Documentary Stalled by Honesty Concerns
Mel B also addressed rumors of a proposed Netflix documentary about the band, similar to projects by David and Victoria Beckham. "I think we've all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point," she said. "But it has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest."
Reports from 2024 suggested Geri Horner derailed a potential £1 million per member deal, with sources citing fallout from Mel B's 2019 revelation about a past lesbian fling with Geri. Geri denied the affair, accusing Mel B of fabricating the story to promote her memoir, Brutally Honest.
Mel C confirmed the absence of immediate reunion plans but remained optimistic about future collaborations. Meanwhile, Mel B expressed uncertainty about returning to the stage even if invited, stating she has "fond memories" but isn't sure she'd want to revisit that chapter of her life.
