Meghan Markle's biggest problem isn't the Royal Family – it's that the world has moved on.
Prince William and Princess Catherine Still Dominate the Conversation
If Meghan hoped to become the world's most talked-about royal figure outside the monarchy, she faces one major obstacle. Prince William and Princess Catherine. Whether it is Catherine's return following cancer treatment, William's growing statesman-like role, or their children's increasing public appearances, the Waleses continue to command enormous public interest. Every appearance becomes global news. Every photograph generates headlines. And crucially, their popularity appears remarkably resilient. The spotlight Meghan once shared is now firmly focused elsewhere. That is a difficult reality for anyone trying to build a competing global brand.
The Attacks on the Monarchy Achieved Very Little
For a period, criticism of the Royal Family became a central feature of the Sussex narrative. There was Oprah. There was Netflix. There was Spare – yet despite the controversy, the institution survived. In fact, it is now back to normal – other than Harry's pleas to return, nobody bats an eyelid that he's not carrying out his birthright duties. King Charles became monarch. William's role has expanded, and Catherine remains one of the most admired women in the world. The dramatic reckoning many predicted never really arrived, and that leaves Meghan with an awkward problem. If attacking the institution did not fundamentally weaken it, what exactly was gained? The answer appears increasingly unclear.
Hollywood's A-List Support Has Grown Quieter
Remember when it felt like every celebrity in California wanted to be associated with the Sussexes? Those days feel a long time ago. The celebrity endorsements have become less frequent. The excitement has cooled. The sense of momentum that existed immediately after Megxit is no longer quite so obvious. That does not mean Meghan lacks famous friends. But Hollywood is notoriously fickle as it loves the next big thing. Increasingly, the next big thing appears to be somewhere else – which brings us back to the monarchy. While Hollywood trends come and go, the Royal Family remains one of the world's most enduring brands. That is why the prospect of closer ties with King Charles continues to linger in the background. Not because Meghan necessarily misses royal duties, but because the one thing Hollywood cannot manufacture is the unique relevance that comes from being connected to the House of Windsor. And that may prove to be the hardest lesson of all.
