A blind taste test of supermarket lemonades has crowned Aldi the winner, with its 49p bottle beating Schweppes, which costs £1.75. The test, conducted by a journalist, sampled lemonades from Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Marks & Spencer.
The Rankings
Tesco's lemonade, priced at 90p, came last with a rating of 1/10. Despite a strong aroma, the lemon flavour was barely detectable, and the fizz was lacking.
Lidl's 49p lemonade scored 3/10, described as watery and lacking in both flavour and fizz.
Sainsbury's, at 85p, received 5/10. It had plenty of bubbles but was too sweet, with a lemon flavour that could have been stronger.
Top Contenders
Marks & Spencer's diet lemonade, at £1.50, scored 6/10. It was zestier and tasted closest to real lemons but lacked sufficient fizz, resembling still lemonade.
Schweppes, costing £1.75 from Sainsbury's, scored 9/10. It was described as wonderfully lemony, crisp, and refreshing, with a perfect balance of fizz and flavour.
Aldi's 49p lemonade took the top spot with a 10/10 rating. It had the most fizz and bubbles, tasted remarkably similar to Schweppes, and came at a significantly lower price.
