Meghan Markle's choice not to attend any public engagements in the UK during Prince Harry's visit has left the Duke looking isolated, according to royal commentator Emily Ferguson. The decision, made to avoid the 'Sussex circus' and keep focus on Harry's Invictus Games project, has been described as potentially cruel, especially given Harry's difficult week marked by a legal defeat and security issues at Buckingham Palace.
Meghan's Absence Raises Questions
Ferguson, writing as Royal Editor, questioned whether Meghan's absence was a strategic move to avoid association with Harry's 'toxic brand' or a genuine effort to let his charity work shine. She noted that staying away projected an image of a lonely prince, contrasting sharply with the Prince and Princess of Wales's united appearance at a polo match. 'If my other half has had a week from hell, I’d want to be by his side,' Ferguson wrote.
Meanwhile, the King and Queen hosted Harry, Meghan, and their children at Highgrove House, a meeting confirmed briefly by the Palace on Friday night with no photographs released. This reunion came after four years apart, with the King eager to see his youngest grandchildren.
Queen Camilla Plays Pooh Sticks
Queen Camilla visited Ashdown Forest to mark Winnie the Pooh's centenary, playing Pooh Sticks on the bridge that inspired the game. Ferguson, who happened to be there for her own birthday trip, described the event as a 'treat' and noted that her godmother even got to greet the Queen.
King Charles and Queen Camilla at London Zoo
Earlier in the week, the King and Queen visited London Zoo, where Charles performed a health check on a penguin and used a laser pen to engage the birds. Camilla was so engrossed in conversation with staff that Charles had to call her 'darling' to move her along. 'Most husbands will have been in that position,' Ferguson commented.
Prince William Plays Crazy Golf
Prince William played mini golf in Hastings on Thursday, topping the celebrity leaderboard after tackling the famous windmill hole. He told fellow players that his children love the game, and professionals praised his skills as 'better than a tourist's.'
Wimbledon Anticipation
All eyes are on the Royal Box for the Men's Singles Final, with fans hoping to see the Princess of Wales attend with her family. Last year, Catherine came with William, George, and Charlotte. Prince Louis may not appear yet, as George and Charlotte were both eight when they first attended in 2022, and William was nine in 1991.
