Meghan Markle defended in fiery row over 2019 letter controversy

The Duchess of Sussex has confirmed that she was made aware of “disturbing allegations” concerning her estranged father in 2018. Meghan Markle revealed that a letter detailing allegations against Thomas Markle Snr was sent to the Metropolitan Police before being passed on to her. She said she was assured at the time that the claims were being investigated.

Reports have suggested that Meghan had considered speaking publicly about the child sexual abuse allegations involving her father, but was reportedly advised against doing so by royal protection officers. Meghan has faced backlash from the public, with some claiming that she kept quiet about her father's allegations for her own agenda.

Host Defends Meghan's Silence

Daily Expresso podcast host JJ Anisiobi believed that it was likely the Sussexes had been instructed to keep quiet, if that was truly the case. Speaking to guest Mark Dolan, JJ Anisiobi said: "Meghan is claiming through her network, her sources that she wanted to go public about [the allegations against] Thomas Markle. And I don't want to say I told you so, but I did tell you so.

"The viewers cooked me in the comments for me daring to say if Harry and Meghan were told by the Met about this letter, the Royal Family would've known about it, they'd have been told also, and the Royal Family's modus operandi is always shut it down, ignore it until there's enough public pressure on them."

Guest Remains Suspicious

However, Mark remains suspicious about whether Meghan was truly told to stay silent and instead believes she had her own agenda for refusing to go public with the allegations. He said: "It is abundantly clear that she decided, in my view, to say nothing, to remain silent, to protect her brand. And there's speculation now about whether, as you say, a bodyguard told her to keep schtum. There were also suggestions that any intervention by Meghan, publicly, would prejudice a trial or an investigation."

He added: "I'm not buying that JJ, because did Meghan think that in the course of seven years that an investigation was happening and that developments were being made? I don't think so. If you got allegations that serious, you would expect movements on that within months, not seven years".

Mark Dolan's Conclusion

The Mark Dolan Show host concluded that he believed Meghan sat on the allegations to "protect her public image" and wider ambitions, which included her being the "blushing princess". Thomas Markle, who is 82 and based in the US, denies possessing any such images.
