Matt Richardson Haggled Coach Trip Fee from £5k to £12k

Comedian Matt Richardson has revealed that he was happy to be voted off Channel 4's Celebrity Coach Trip within days of it starting after successfully negotiating his fee from £5,000 to £12,000.

Matt Richardson's Fee Negotiation

In 2022, Richardson appeared on the show alongside Big Brother presenter Will Best. The pair embarked on a coach tour across Europe with other celebrities, where contestants voted each other off until one team was crowned winner. Richardson, who rose to fame as co-presenter on ITV2's The Xtra Factor, admitted he wanted to go home early because it wouldn't affect his pay.

When a TikTok follower asked about payment for appearing on the programme, Richardson was candid. He shared: '12 grand I got for Coach Trip, which I didn't think was bad considering I was on it for 6 days,' according to the Mirror. He disclosed that he had haggled the sum upwards from the producers' initial offer of £5,000.

Comparing Fees with Other Contestants

'They came in and originally offered something like five and I know that a couple of the others were on three or four grand because they mentioned it,' Richardson said. 'But we weren't really talking about our fees together on the show. Because I don't know these people, I wouldn't really talk about money as openly and be like, 'I'm getting this' when you're with them, you know, that would be weird. Like this, in hindsight, I think is a little bit easier.'

Set Fee No Matter the Duration

Richardson clarified that the payment stayed the same regardless of how long they remained on the show: 'Coach Trip was just a set fee no matter how long you were in it – no winning bonus. Um, so me and Will Best were like, 'Well, the less we're in this, the better it is for us. Like, I'm not staying out here for three weeks, let's get home, mate'.'

Host Brendan Sheerin Off Camera

In a separate video, Richardson shared what host Brendan Sheerin was like when the cameras weren't rolling. 'He was very nice, really pleasant, really fun, but, you know, got to the end of the day and he'd take himself away from us,' he said. 'He'd go to his hotel room and chill out, which is what I wish I could have done.'
