Mark Ronson Receives BRITs' Outstanding Contribution Award

Global music icon Mark Ronson has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at this year's BRIT Awards ceremony. The British-American musician, producer and DJ will join an exclusive list of legendary artists who have previously received this honour, including Kylie Minogue, Spice Girls, Bob Geldof, David Bowie and Sir Elton John.

A Career-Defining Honour

Ronson, who already boasts two BRIT Awards and nine nominations throughout his career, described this latest accolade as "the most meaningful honour of my career." The 50-year-old artist expressed profound gratitude for being recognised alongside the musical giants he has long admired.

"I think of the times I've watched artists I revere accept this same award," Ronson said. "The idea that I'm now standing in that lineage feels impossible. I left England as a kid, but this country runs through everything I've made."

British Influence and Global Impact

The multi-award winning musician credited UK artists with shaping his creative approach, stating: "The UK artists I've worked with—their brilliance and refusal to compromise—shaped not just my work but how I understand what music should do." He also paid tribute to British fans who have supported his career over decades.

Ronson will not only receive the award but will also perform at the ceremony on February 28th at Manchester's Co-op Live arena. This marks the first time the BRIT Awards have been held outside London, adding historical significance to this year's event.

Industry Recognition and Legacy

Stacey Tang, Chair of the 2026 BRIT Awards Committee and co-president of RCA Records at Sony Music, praised Ronson's extraordinary influence on contemporary culture. "Mark's creative influence spans every corner of contemporary culture," Tang stated. "He has shaped the musical landscape globally with incredible albums, his own artist releases, as well as those in collaboration with phenomenal talents he has discovered and nurtured."

Tang emphasised Ronson's unique ability to elevate every project he works on, noting that this award "recognises his huge contribution to British music's global story and cements his place as one of the most innovative creators of our time."

Remarkable Career Achievements

Ronson's career highlights include:

  • Producing Amy Winehouse's critically acclaimed album Back to Black
  • Creating global hits including Uptown Funk and Shallow with Lady Gaga
  • Winning nine Grammy Awards throughout his career
  • Amassing 25 billion streams worldwide across his catalogue

Most recently, Ronson published his memoir Night People, documenting his early career as a DJ in New York's club scene during the 1990s and exploring his parents' influence on his musical development.

2026 BRIT Awards Lineup

Ronson joins an impressive lineup of performers for this year's ceremony, including Harry Styles, Wolf Alice and Olivia Dean. So far, only Ronson and Critics' Choice Award winner Jacob Alon have secured their trophies for the night.

The 2026 nominations feature several prominent artists, with Olivia Dean and Lola Young leading with five nominations each. Other notable nominees include Sam Fender with four nominations, along with Lily Allen, Calvin Harris, JADE, Chappell Roan, sombr, Bad Bunny, Pulp, RAYE and Taylor Swift.

This recognition comes as Ronson continues to influence the music industry through his production work, solo projects and collaborations, maintaining his position as one of Britain's most significant musical exports and innovators.
